A few hours ago, French outlet RMC Sport reported that Hugo Ekitike’s move to Newcastle United was on ice due to late interest from PSG turning the player’s head.
They claimed that 19-year-old was stalling on a move to St James’ Park, however Sky Sports’ latest update suggests we are closing in on the Reims striker.
In a lunch time update for Newcastle United fans, North-East reporter Keith Downie states that the club are ‘close’ to agreeing personal terms with the Frenchman.
He reports that the player is currently away on holiday after spending the last few weeks competing at the Toulon tournament with France, however it’s hoped he’ll arrive on Tyneside for his medical ‘next week’ if personal terms can be agreed.
After RMC’s concerning update earlier today, this offers a bit of reassurance for fans hoping to see the highly-rated teenager sign this summer – although we’ll have to hope the likes of PSG and Borussia Dortmund don’t up their ‘interest’ while he’s away on holiday.
