Lee Ryder claims Fulham and Nottingham Forest are now looking to sign Newcastle defender

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles is ‘wanted’ by newly promoted sides Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

The 28-year-old has struggled for game time following the arrival of Dan Burn in January, with manager Eddie Howe preferring to play the former Brighton man and Fabian Schar in a back four.

Unfortunately for Lascelles, his limitations on the ball mean he doesn’t quite fit the system or style of play Howe is trying to enforce, so it’s hard to see the skipper getting back into our starting 11.

As a former Nottingham Forest man, a summer return to the City Ground could appeal to the Midlands born defender; who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt.

He would add a lot of Premier League experience to a fairly inexperienced squad at Forest, with newly-promoted Fulham likely to be interested for the same reason ahead of their return to the top flight.

Due to having a lot of ageing defenders at the club – Fernandez, Clark, Burn and Schar are all in their 30s – Ryder claims it is very likely that we sign a younger centre-back who ‘won’t demand game-time’ this summer, suggesting Sven Botman may not be the only central defender we bring in should the big Dutchman end up at St James’ Park.

  2. If his ball paying skills are limited then he’ll not suit Fulham style of play. It’s getting ridiculous how all these rumours of Fulham and Forest wanting the same players are being thrown around. Oh for the days when the media reported the news instead of inventing it

  3. “Fulham…shipped goals for fun during their last season in the top flight.”
They shipped 53 (9 less than Newcastle) putting their defence in 13th. Their attack was the problem because Parker wouldn’t play Mitrovic. Defence was ok for a newly-promoted team.
