It’s the first day of pre-season training on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe and a host of Newcastle players spotted back at the Benton base this morning.
There’ll still be plenty of absentees – international players like Sven Botman, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar have been given an extended break and remain on holiday – however it’s great to see some of the lads back in action after several weeks away.
Kell Watts has returned from his promotion-winning loan spell with Wigan fresh from signing a new contract, while Eddie Howe and others are pictured wearing the new training kits produced by Castore.
The squad arrived around 8am, with this year’s pre-season plan beginning five days earlier than this time last year – a clear indication of Howe’s high expectations given the 2021/22 season ended a week later than usual.
