Eddie Howe tells player he has no future on Tyneside as Toon place 6 on transfer list – Reports

It’s becoming clearer who Eddie Howe is looking to move out over the coming weeks and months, with our bloated squad in desperate need of a trim.

One man who appears out of his first-team plans is Matty Longstaff, as The Chronicle have revealed that he’s now training with the U21s having been told he won’t be part of our pre-season camp in Austria.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a promising spell with League Two side Mansfield over the second half of the 2021/22 season, bagging six goals in 16 appearances, however he’s set to move on this summer with a host of EFL sides keen.

Three others who won’t be joining Eddie in the Alps are Dwight Gayle, Jeff Hendrick and Ciaran Clark, with The Mail revealing that they’re also out of Howe’s first-team plans and attracting interest from Championship sides such as Watford, Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Reading.

Karl Darlow and Federico Fernandez are also ‘up for sale’, reports Mark Douglas at iNews, although it’s said some second tier clubs are struggling to afford their Premier League wages – something that’s continuing to cause issues when it comes to outgoings.

Loan moves have therefore been touted for all six, which won’t help raise funds for potential arrivals but will at least create space in the squad and reduce our wage bill.
