Dan Ashworth involved in ‘high level talks’ to bring Premier League talent to Tyneside – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are still pushing to strike a deal for Anthony Gordon – despite Everton fighting ‘tooth and nail’ to keep the winger at Goodison Park.

Lee Ryder has revealed that new sporting director Dan Ashworth has held ‘high level talks’ with Kevin Thelwell – Everton’s director of football – to find out what it would take to bring the 21-year-old to Tyneside.

This comes after The Telegraph and Sky Sports confirmed yesterday that we’d made contact with the Toffees over a potential £35m move for the England U21 star.

The Athletic soon added their piece, stating the Merseyside club have ‘no intention’ of selling the scouse talent this summer, with David Ornstein reporting that a new deal could be offered to help tie him down.

However, The Chronicle insist that we remain in dialogue with Everton, with Dan Ashworth attempting to work his magic in order to strike a deal.

Personally, I can’t see him leaving his boyhood club just yet and don’t see us paying the sort of money they’d demand should they reluctantly cash in. He’s a talented player, but we’d be far better served biding our time in a bid to bring in Moussa Diaby instead.
