Newcastle loanee scores first goal for new club just 109 minutes after putting pen to paper

It hasn’t taken Jeff Hendrick long to make an impact at Reading.

The midfielder completed a season-long loan move to the Royals at 12pm on Tuesday afternoon – then went on to bag his first goal for his new club less than two hours after putting pen to paper!

He started in their 1pm kick off against Maidenhead United – Reading’s third game of pre-season – and opened the scoring with a back-post finish, taking just 40 minutes to open his account for the Championship side.

The Irishman only made three Premier League appearances for Newcastle last season and found the net once in that dismal defeat at Wolves back in October – which happened to be the last goal of the Mike Ashley era!

Here’s what Reading boss Paul Ince has had to say following his arrival:

“Jeff is a midfielder I have admired for a long period of time. He has the ability and experience to play in a number of roles across the midfield, he works hard, he wins the ball back, he can pick a pass and he can score goals too.

A player of his experience will prove so important for this club going into the challenge of the Championship this season.”

  1. 40 minutes? What took him so long?
I remember Chopra coming on as a sub against Sunderland and scoring within 10 seconds.
I guess Hendrick has found his level.
Seriously – does anyone know if this is some kind of record?
