Newcastle launch loan bid with ‘obligation to buy’ for versatile defender – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle are trying to beat AC Milan to a deal for Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga.

This comes from TuttoMercato, with Chief Editor Marco Conterio claiming we’ve launched a loan bid for the versatile defender.

That offer is believed to include an ‘obligation to buy’ next summer – and it’s said that these terms appeal to Tottenham as it guarantees a sale once the loan expires in 12 months time.

Conterio insists that AC Milan are showing ‘strong’ interest in the 23-year-old, however it looks like we are trying to beat the Italian giants to yet ANOTHER defender after pipping them to the signing of Sven Botman last month.

Although few were expecting more defensive additions, Tanganga could be a smart signing. He’s a former England U21 international who is able to operate in a number of positions, being a centre-back by trade who can also operate at right-back or left-back.

Time will tell if there’s any truth in this latest transfer rumour, but this would be a useful way of using up one of our two loan slots, adding pace, athleticism and versatility to our back line.
