Eddie Howe reveals two reasons Newcastle are finding deals “difficult” to do this summer

Eddie Howe has revealed that we are still “keen to add strength to certain areas”, but admits that it has been a “difficult window” due to “high prices” and “very limited availability.”

It’s been a quiet few weeks on the transfer front following the arrival of Sven Botman last month – although Howe remains “hopeful” there’ll be more to come as those behind the scenes work “every day” on new potential incomings.

Bringing in a new striker and right-winger is believed to be our priority, with the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Moussa Diaby all heavily linked.

Ekitike has now joined PSG, while reports earlier this week suggested that hefty asking prices and huge wage demands could scupper moves for Diaby and Isak.

When asked for a transfer update following our 3-0 win over 1860 Munich, here’s what Howe had to say:

“There’s nothing to report, and we’re still in the process of working very hard behind the scenes to try and improve the squad.

“That work is continuing every day, even from here.

“We are keen to add strength to certain areas of the team. It remains to be seen whether we can get a deal done.

“It’s a difficult window, a difficult market, high prices and very limited availability.

“I’m sure we can hopefully a land a player who can make a difference.”

While our defence has been massively improved so far this window, it is vital that we add goals, quality and some added flare in the final third between now and September 1st.
