Newcastle ‘working on’ ambitious move for Leicester City attacker – Alan Nixon

According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle are ‘working on’ a deal to bring Harvey Barnes to St James’ Park – however Leicester City have already made it clear that he won’t come cheap.

Nixon – a senior reporter at The Sun – claims that the Foxes star is the latest winger we’ve shown a keen interest in, but his club insist they’ll only sell if we’re able to meet their £50m asking price.

This feels like a familiar tale in our search for new attackers. Barnes would be a quality addition as an hugely promising, Premier League proven winger who could add goals and assists to our side, although it feels like his price tag may prove prohibitive?

That being said, you won’t get a 24-year-old England international who got into double figures for goals and assists last season for much cheaper.

Barnes’ form has been up and down since he suffered a serious knee injury almost 18 months ago, yet he’s still bagged an impressive 31 goals and 27 assists in all competitions over the past three years.

I can’t see us paying £50m, but may believe to have leverage over Leicester on this one, with reports suggesting they may need to sell a star player this summer to ease FFP fears.

One thing that leaves me slightly confused about this latest transfer link is the fact he’s another left winger. Barnes hasn’t started a single game on the right over the past two seasons and often cut in on his right foot from the left – like current Mag Allan Saint-Maximin.

  1. The report missed a one off the front.
    This is made up silliness.
Barnes is Leicester to the core…just signed a new 4 year deal and is key to our top 6 aspirations.
£150m is unlikely to be enough.
