Newcastle now trying to beat Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen to Brazilian winger – ESPN

According to ESPN Brazil, Newcastle are battling Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen for the signature of Palmeiras prospect Giovani.

All three sides are set to ‘resume monitoring’ the 18-year-old winger after a recent ankle injury, with Ajax already having a £10m bid rejected back in January.

The Sao Paolo based side have a £50m release clause inserted into the 18-year-olds contract, viewing him as ‘one of the biggest jewels at the club’.

He fits the profile of the young winger the Toon Army have been looking for this window. This isn’t the only young South American we seem to be tracking, with Globo Esporte reporting earlier this month that Steve Nickson has been watching Santos star Angelo Gabriel.

Giovani has not played a full 90 minutes of first team football this season, but has impressed in the under 20s, with four goals and three assists in 14 appearances on the right of the front three.

With that in mind, he may be someone we are looking to add to our U21 set up? Time will tell, but it’s interesting to see us linked with yet another teenager from Brazil.
