Newcastle ‘do not want to miss out’ on SC Braga wonderkid Roger Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the talented teenager, with A Bola now reporting that we’re prepared to pay £21m in a bid to beat off rival interest from a host of European clubs.
Atletico Madrid are said to be in heavy pursuit of the youngster, with a bid expected in the next few days. Dortmund have already had a €10m bid rejected, while Ajax could not tempt Braga with €12m.
At 15, Fernandes became the youngest player to feature in the Liga NOS last year before bursting onto the scene with three goals in 11 first-team appearances, also featuring in Braga’s recent Europa League campaign.
Although a highly sought-after prospect across Europe, Fernandes does not turn 18 until November 2023, so we’d have to wait over a year before he’d be eligible to arrive on Tyneside.
