4 senior players could leave Newcastle before September 1st and one set to stay – The Athletic

All eyes will be on incomings over the final three weeks of the transfer window, but it seems there’ll still be a few more outgoings between now and September 1st.

According to The Athletic, it’s ‘highly unlikely’ that Eddie Howe selects four goalkeepers in his 25-man squad, meaning Karl Darlow could make way.

He’s not expected to settle for third choice and could join a bottom half Premier League side or promotion chasing Championship club before the window shuts, unless Martin Dubravka pushes to leave after losing his first-team place to Nick Pope.

The second player who could depart is Javier Manquillo, as Chris Waugh reports that we may ‘listen to offers’ for the Spaniard now he’s fallen behind Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth in the pecking order.

Matt Ritchie is also ‘keen to return to the south coast’ and could be allowed to leave if the right offer arrives, although Howe is currently reluctant to lose the experienced wide man.

Federico Fernandez is expected to stay as things stand – despite the fact he’s unlikely to get game time behind Botman, Schar, Burn and Lascelles – however Jamal Lewis may yet be allowed to leave on loan if the club decide he’d benefit from a season of first-team football after a recent niggle stopped him from featuring in any of our summer friendlies.

  1. A fit Fernandez with a few games under his belt is streets ahead of Lascelles and depending on form could also keep Shar on the bench.

In addition to that, a fit Manquillo would leapfrog Krafth.

I reckon this pretty much shows that Waugh knows nothing.
