Callum Wilson scans confirm bad news as extent of hamstring injury goes public – The Telegraph

Callum Wilson looks set for another spell on the sidelines after an update emerged on his latest hamstring injury.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reports that the 30-year-old has been ruled out for the next ‘three to four weeks‘, meaning he could miss a total of six games.

Our top scorer came off midway through the second half of Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City after complaining about some tightness in his hamstring.

He’s undergone scans over the past few days and it seems some bad news has come back, as Luke Edwards backs him to be sidelined until after the international break at the end of September.

It clearly isn’t too serious, but the fact he’ll likely miss Premier League clashes against Wolves, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth may explain why we pulled the trigger on a club record move for Alexander Isak.

As good as Wilson is when fit, he gets far too many injuries, with even small niggles like this one keeping him out for a number weeks just a few games into the new season.

In the mean time, Chris Wood looks set to start in Sunday’s clash at Molineux, with the Kiwi boasting an impressive record against Wolves – five goals in his last four appearances – and finding the net in last night’s 2-1 win over Tranmere.

  1. What last night proved beyond doubt is that we need to strengthen in depth. At times we struggled against what was a dirty second division side, that showed our second string simply isn’t good enough. OK, we won, but the cost is a further thinning of what we’ve got.
Wood scored a great goal, but he’s never threatened like that against better opposition.
Nor should we even consider selling Miggy. He’ll keep Pedro on his toes assuming Pedro gets past him in the pecking order. Pedro’s stats ain’t that brilliant and nobody has better stats for tracking back and winning the ball back. He also wins us countless free kicks. It’s a team game and he contributes as much as anybody. He’s improving under Eddie and we simply can’t afford to make the squad weaker than it is. First eleven is great – of which he’s part of – and even as a sub his pace against tiring defenders will always cause problems.
Bizarre how so much was made of him missing from the penalty spot area, let not a squeak about Wilson missing from three yards!
