Free agent confirms Newcastle offer during video message on Instagram – Watch here

It seems Ben Foster really did receive an offer to join Newcastle United last week.

As we know, the club announced the signing of Loris Karius on a free transfer on Monday, with the former Liverpool stopper arriving on a short-term deal after Karl Darlow suffered an ankle ligament injury.

However, it seems we may have approached Foster first, with the 39-year-old revealing on his Instagram page that he was handed the chance to sign at St James’ Park earlier this month, claiming a medical was arranged after a “really good contract” had been sent his way.

Since he was released by Watford over the summer, the free agent goalkeeper has spent more time producing Youtube content than playing football, with some expecting the former England international to announce his retirement from the game later on today.

Here’s the video Foster released on his Instagram account (@TheCyclingGK) which confirms our offer and hints at a big announcement to explain all at 4pm:

“Just over a week ago, I’m sitting at home…the phone rings.

” ‘Fozzy, listen I know a team that wants to sign you. It’s good to go. They want to sign you, it’s Newcastle'”

“I’ve gone, ‘oh my gosh, this is massive’.

“I thought, if they are going to pay me a really good wage it’s something I’ve got to (consider).”

” ‘Fozzy, we are getting closer. I think they (Newcastle) might do it you know.

“You’ve just been offered a contract, a really good contract, by the richest club in the world. They want me to literally do the medical tomorrow.”

In the end, we’ve ended up with Karius, but that may be for the best if Foster is more committed to life away from the football pitch these days?
