Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier have both received call-ups to the England squad – and have been joined by a former Newcastle United forward Ivan Toney.
Following today’s 2pm announcement, the Brentford star has been named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the first time in his career.
After a stunning hat-trick in that 5-2 win over Leeds earlier this month, Toney has five goals and two assists in six Premier League appearances this season, leaving him behind only Erling Haaland (10) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (6) in the scoring charts.
Back to Newcastle United, Nick Pope could be handed a rare start for the Three Lions later this month, with an injury to Jordan Pickford opening the door to both him and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
England face Italy – a repeat of the EURO final – at the San Siro in the UEFA Nations League on Friday 23rd September, followed by another Nations League clash with Germany on Monday 26th.
Two tough games and every chance we see both Pope and Trippier in action as England look to bounce back from that dismal 4-0 defeat to Hungary last time out.
Here’s England’s 28-man squad in full:
Love the efforts at the team sheet.
Looks like a poster for a “B” Movie
