Amanda Staveley makes early moves to protect Eddie Howe in fear of England call – Report

According to the iNews’ Mark Douglas, Newcastle are already taking steps to ensure Eddie Howe isn’t snapped up by the FA amid rumours that Gareth Southgate’s job could be up for grabs after the World Cup.

A lot of pressure has been placed on Southgate following our dismal displays in the Nations League, and Eddie Howe, who was considered for the job in 2016, is the name on a lot of people’s lips to replace the 52-year-old after our next tournament.

However, Amanda Staveley has already started a plan to hold onto Howe by handing him the responsibility of overseeing the development of the training ground as well as being invited to discuss how the infrastructure of the club needs to improve to become a Champions League side.

In years gone past, supporters could understand wanting to leave the North East club – a desolate side drained of any ambition – for the highest honour in the country, but now, there is something special being built on Tyneside and we are no longer a stepping stone for bigger things.

On the outside looking in, Howe has clearly been instilled with confidence from the owners that he is the man to take us forwards and will be at the head of this long-term project that will hopefully culminate in something historical.

An England approach could be coming Howe’s way after Qatar, but it seems we’re putting everything in place to keep the 44-year-old on Tyneside, making him an ‘architect’ of the long term project set out by our ambitious new owners.

  1. I’m guessing that your venture into business management didn’t go too well.

Piling the work on in a high pressure environment, for the same salary, doesn’t really strike me as the best way to stop your staff moving on to a better job!
