Sven Botman has been named in the Netherlands’ provisional squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
The 22-year-old has never represented the senior Dutch side, instead starring in their U21 set up, however he’s been selected in a 39-man list of players Louis van Gaal will cut to 26 over the coming weeks.
Botman will now compete alongside Van Dijk, Timber, Aké, De Ligt and De Vrij for a place in the final squad, having four Premier League games left to impress before the World Cup break.
It’s unlikely he makes the final cut, but it’s a step in the right direction to see him named in the provisional squad and a well deserved reward for his outstanding form at club level.
We’ve not lost all season when the 6ft 4′ Dutchman has started, with him playing a big part in our unbeaten run after commanding and composes displays against the likes of Ivan Toney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
He may not make the World Cup, but it won’t be long until he’s a regular part of their senior side if his recent displays in the Premier League are anything to go by!
