Former Premier League boss makes big Miguel Almiron claim and nails it on Kieran Trippier

Harry Redknapp believes Miguel Almiron would get in any starting eleven in England after naming the in-form Paraguayan in his Premier League Team of the Week.

In his latest piece for Bet Victor, the former Spurs boss has also included Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson in his side after the pair played key roles in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa.

Not only has Redknapp talked up Almiron’s ‘electric’ form, he’***** the nail on the head when discussing Trippier’s displays in a black an white shirt, feeling he’s been one of the top performing players in the Premier League so far.

Such praise for the England right-back is thoroughly deserved, as it’s hard to remember the 32-year-old putting a foot wrong all season. He’s been a model of consistency and so classy in all departments, leading the best defence in the Premier League, getting the better of several tricky wingers, creating from open play, scoring from set pieces and bagging another assist for Wilson’s second on Saturday.

As for Almiron, it’s perhaps a stretch to suggest he’d get in Liverpool’s side ahead of Mo Salah or walk into Pep Guardiola’s Man City side, but it shows how much he’s impressed this season to hear these comments about a player some on Tyneside would’ve happily sold 12 months ago!

Here’s what Redknapp’s had to say about each Newcastle player named in his Premier League 11, which also featured Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Man Utd centre-back Lisandro Martinez:

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle are flying, and Trippier has been right up there with their top performers all season long. He caused Villa all sorts of problems getting in behind and was great at the back as well. He’s got bags of experience, and it’s turned out to be a great move to get him in from Eddie Howe.

Miguel Almiron

“He’s playing out of his skin at the moment. I can confidently say he’d get into any starting eleven in the Premier League. He was electric against Villa on Saturday, and what about that goal? Superbly taken from a player full of confidence.”

Callum Wilson:

“Another couple of goals for Newcastle’s talisman. He’s thriving at the moment, and with such brilliant service coming in from behind, it’s no surprise at all. He’s playing at the top of his game. He’s my Star Man this week.”

  1. Well done Olly – managed to censor yourself in your own article.
Olly’s software has decided that the letter “s” does not go in front of the word “hit”, no matter what the context.
For that reason “… he’s h!t the nail on the head” was deemed unsuitable for wee Toon fans to read.

Yep and you were one of those who wanted him sold Olly !!

Didn’t actively want us to get rid – he’s always been a hard worker capable of producing more under the right manager – but I admit I would’ve been OK with it had we cashed in over the summer and replaced him with a Maddison or Diaby.

Let’s not act like people saw this run of form coming!
