Callum Wilson ‘whispers’ arrive ahead of England’s World Cup announcement at 2pm

According to the Evening Standard, Callum Wilson is set to be included in England’s 26-man World Cup squad – which is due to be officially announced at 2pm today.

It’s believed the 30-year-old will join Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Arsenal’s Ben White on the plane to Qatar in less than two weeks time as he prepares to represent his country in a major tournament for the first time.

Despite being away from the England setup since 2019, the striker has been in impressive form this season, being involved in eight goals (six goals and two assists) in 10 Premier League appearances so far.

It is understood that our number nine will beat the likes of Tammy Abraham, Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the squad, with Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka expected to join Wilson in attack.

After struggling massively with injuries in his three seasons on Tyneside, this would be a dream come true for Wilson; who has worked so hard to achieve this dream call-up.

Let’s hope he makes the 26 when the squad is announced at 2pm. If the ‘early whispers’ are anything to go by, it looks like he’ll receive good news alongside Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier!
