Sven Botman has been left out of the Netherlands’ 26-man squad for the World Cup, despite an impressive run of form in the Premier League.
The Dutchman was named in Louis van Gaal’s provisional squad last month, however the final line up released today does NOT feature the 22-year-old.
The likes of Man City’s Nathan Ake and Ajax’s Daley Blind have made the cut instead – a move that has baffled many on social media given Botman has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive defenders so far this season.
We’ve not lost all season when the big man has started, with him keeping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet last month, as well as showing real quality and calmness with the ball at his feet.
With this in mind, it looks like the following six will represent Newcastle United in Qatar:
- Nick Pope (England)
- Kieran Trippier (England)
- Callum Wilson (England)
- Bruno Guimarães (Brazil)
- Fabian Schar (Switzerlad)
- Garang Kuol (Australia)
