Alan Shearer has selected THREE Newcastle players – Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Joelinton – in his Premier League Team of the Week, with former Mag Ivan Toney also featuring following a brace at Man City.
The trio join the likes of Darwin Nunez and Martin Odegaard as Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea made it five wins in five, also extending our unbeaten run to 11 in all competitions.
In what was a tense affair at St James’ Park, our rock-solid defence came out on top against Graham Potter’s Blues as we registered our seventh clean sheet of the season.
Both Trippier and Botman were key in our back line as we secured a victory over the Champions League side, while the tireless Joelinton played a crucial role in our goal after his perfectly executed pass into the feet of Miguel Almiron.
Having three of our players in Shearer’s Team of the Week is becoming a common occurrence and something we may have to get used to if we can keep this form up after the World Cup break!
