6ft 5′ striker dubbed the ‘next Haaland’ opens door to Newcastle move during Sky interview

Croatian striker Dion Drena Beljo has issued a come and get me plea to Newcastle United, revealing how the film ‘Goal’ sparked his love affair with the Magpies as a kid.

Speaking to Sky Germany, the 20-year-old has talked up a potential move to the Premier League in the new year, talking up our ‘incredible fans’ and ‘financial power’ following the recent takeover.

The 6ft 5′ NK Osijek striker bagged 20 goals in all competitions during his first full season in senior football last year and has started the new campaign in superb form, scoring nine times in his opening 19 games in the Croatian top flight.

He was linked with a move to West Ham over the summer and has been tipped to land a big move soon, but it remains to be seen if Toon talent spotters are keen to bring the big man to Tyneside.

Here’s what he had to say about a potential move in 2023, namedropping Newcastle United at the end:

“I wouldn’t mind winning the Premier League! I watch almost every game in England. Honestly.

“The best players in the world play there. The Premier League is the best league in the world. Of course, there are Bayern, Paris and Real in the other leagues.

“But in England there are so many teams with a lot of quality. The football there is very intense, but mainly I watch the games because I play a virtual manager game with my friends. So, I have to keep an eye on everything there. I really enjoy that.

“Most recently Manchester United (are his favourite team) because of Cristiano Ronaldo, but there is another team that will surely surprise you: Newcastle United!

“Because when I was a kid, I watched the film ‘Goal’ and the player in that film fulfilled his dream of a professional career at Newcastle.

“I think Newcastle will be even better in real life. Because of their financial power and the incredible fans.
