Newcastle set to miss out on January target as player closes in on Premier League move

It looks like Ukrainian sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk is on his way to the Premier League – but not Newcastle United.

As revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Arsenal are now in talks to bring the Shakhtar Donetsk star to the Emirates next month, with the player ‘determined’ to sign for the Gunners.

He adds that those close to the deal believe there is a ‘good chance’ it will happen, suggesting we will miss out on the man Toon scouts have been tracking over the past 12 months.

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh recently confirmed he was a player of particular interest on Tyneside, with iNews’ Mark Douglas reporting back in September that we were considering a £50m bid for the 21-year-old in January.

That said, with Arsenal top of the table and Mudryk’s value rocketing in recent months following his outstanding displays on the Champions League stage, he may have been a stretch too far next month – especially if the club have their hands tied from a FFP perspective.
