Agent set for talks with Newcastle United as Toon eye Kieran Trippier’s former teammate

As reported by The Mirror, agent Jorge Mendes is in England to speak with Newcastle and Aston Villa about the possibility of signing Atlético Madrid forward Joao Felix following a fallout with Diego Simeone.

The Portuguése star was tipped for greatness when he joined the La Liga side for around £113m in 2019, but the move just hasn’t worked out for him, seeing him heavily linked with a Premier League switch to get his career back on track.

Mendes has already spoken to Chelsea and Man United, but it’s thought Newcastle and Aston Villa could also offer him a salary increase and projects that intend to deliver European football sooner rather than later.

The biggest issue we face is that Felix wants to play Champions League football – Aston Villa are certainly a long way off that this season, but Newcastle’s incredible form has us in third, meaning a real possibility of Europe next year.

Unai Emery is thought to be a big fan of the former Benfica star, while Eddie Howe is keen to carry out personality checks on the La Liga forward who’ll know Kieran Trippier well following their time together in Spain.

The long-term project on Tyneside is certainly an exciting project to be a part of, but it’s unclear whether we would risk spending so much on one young player rather than improving in multiple areas.

  1. Fallout ? Is he the right player for us, not so sure he is and he wasn’t that good in the WC for that amount.

  2. I thought we only took players with the right mentality?
Are we really going to start adopting waifs and strays who have “fallen out” with their managers?
    Don’t think so!
