“He’s heading to Newcastle” – Geordie star to sign despite Man Utd, Man City & Chelsea interest?

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, 90min reporter Graeme Bailey has claimed that Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg is ‘heading to Newcastle’ despite interest from Chelsea, Man United and Man City.

The 15-year-old, who has captained England U-16s, recently made his first-team debut in a 1-1 draw against Blackpool and was again brought off the bench in Sunderland’s 2-1 Fa Cup victory against Shrewsbury/

Rigg is rated as one of the most promising midfielders in the country and Bailey believes that his Geordie roots will play a crucial factor in his next move, reporting that we’ll pay a ‘very small compensation fee’ for his signature.

As a Newcastle fan growing up in Hebburn and surrounded by a family of Toon supporters, there is a good chance the youngster will want to swap his red and white stripes for black and white ones at the earliest opportunity.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed that we are ‘strong favourites’ to beat Man United to his signature in a recent report, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Speaking on 90min’s transfer podcast, Bailey had this to say: “He’s a fabulous prospect. Again this is a player who Chelsea like but it’s a player who Man United like, Man City, he’s got his choice of clubs in England.

“But being the avid Geordie he is, we think he’s heading to Newcastle for a very small compensation.”
