Sky Sports: £45m deal reaches ‘advanced stage’ as Newcastle close in on transfer breakthrough

It sounds like Anthony Gordon’s proposed move to Newcastle United has moved closer to completion today.

As revealed by Sky Sports News on Friday afternoon, the club are now ‘close’ to agreeing a fee with Everton for the 21-year-old.

They report that talks have reached an ‘advanced stage’ over a structured deal worth a total of £45m – suggesting it will be a lower initial fee that includes potential performance-related add-ons.

After three days away from Finch Farm, the winger was spotted back at Everton’s training ground today – although it’s unclear if he was actually involved in this morning’s session.

Sky Sports add that there is now a ‘growing belief’ a deal will be agreed over the weekend, meaning the England U21 international could be a Newcastle United player in the next 48 hours.

His potential arrival has been met with a very mixed reaction on Tyneside, but we must trust Eddie Howe’s judgement on this one. After all, the club have barely put a foot wrong in the market since new owners arrived.
