Howe’s transfer update on Ashby, Shelvey, Saint-Maximin & Darlow as boss hints at late loan

Speaking to the press this morning, Eddie Howe has confirmed Jonjo Shelvey is closing in on a move to Nottingham Forest.

He accepts it’s a deal the 30-year-old wants at this stage of his career – his contract is up this summer – but is reluctant to lose the player, saying he’d “definitely want to keep him” from a footballing perspective.

Quizzed about our search for a replacement, Howe confirmed the club are pushing to bring someone in, yet warned that there is “no guarantee” one arrives.

A permanent signing looks “very difficult”, with a loan far more likely, however the boss is intent on recruiting the “right player” and won’t sign “for the sake of it.”

Howe revealed that Harrison Ashby’s move from West Ham is “still to be concluded” after we agreed a £3m deal with West Ham on Sunday and rubbished suggestions Allan Saint-Maximin could leave following interest from AC Milan, insisting the winger is “here to stay” and an “integral part” of his team.

Karl Darlow will be in the squad for tomorrow’s semi-final. After that, it appears likely he’ll head to Hull City on loan should our goalkeeping department avoid any injuries on the night.
