As revealed by Sky Sports News, Jonjo Shelvey is now en-route to Tyneside as he prepares to bid farewell to Newcastle United.
After completing a medical at Nottingham Forest, Keith Downie reports that he’s currently travelling north, where he will say goodbye to his Toon teammates and Newcastle United fans before tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Southampton.
It remains to be seen if he’ll come onto the pitch for one last farewell, but it’s a classy touch from all involved that he’ll be in attendance as we look to book a place at Wembley.
The 30-year-old midfielder has spent seven years at the club – he sealed a £12m move from Swansea in 2016 – and looks set to sign a two-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground.
Eddie Howe was clearly reluctant to let Shelvey leave, however it seems the player himself felt it was an offer he couldn’t refuse when his contract on Tyneside was due to expire this summer.
