Two deals dead as Newcastle are left scrambling for late loan ahead of 11pm deadline – Reports

After a day of speculation, it seems both Conor Gallagher and Sander Berge will NOT be arriving at Newcastle United before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

As revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea have decided to keep the 22-year-old, as they have ‘little interest’ in allowing him to leave on loan again, while permanent offers received have been well short of their lofty asking price.

The Mail’s Craig Hope adds that Chelsea have no interest in strengthening a Newcastle side they deem to be a ‘direct rival’, while interest from Everton, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and West Ham has come to nothing.

So, he’s set to stay, barring any ‘late twist’, and Sheffield United’s Sander Berge will also be going nowhere.

Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett claims the Blades have received no contact from Newcastle or Fulham in the past 24 hours, with the 6ft 5′ Norwegian now happy to remain at Bramall Lane after training with the Championship side earlier today.

Luke Edwards at The Telegraph insists that our recruitment team are ‘still making calls’ to see if there’s another defensive midfielder who could be available to sign on loan, but it’s starting to feel like we’ll finish the window without a new No 6.
