Newcastle’s summer plans go public as Toon sign up to tournament with Chelsea, Leeds & Brighton

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United will be part of a pre-season tournament in America this summer.

As revealed by David Ornstein, we are expected to play in a series of round-robin friendlies in the US, with Chelsea, Brighton and Leeds in line to also be involved.

The tournament is set to take place at the end of July on the east coast of the US, with Philadelphia, Atlanta and New Jersey to host.

Six Premier League clubs will be involved, so it remains to be seen who will join Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton and Leeds – although the latter’s involvement is dependant on them beating the drop this season.

The event is part of the Premier League’s ongoing bid for further global expansion and comes after our planned trip to the US was cancelled last summer due to the late postponement of the Ohio Cup.

As a result, we organised training camps in Austria and Portugal for our 2022 pre-season programme, but it looks like we’ll now build up to the 2023/24 season in America.
