Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press this morning ahead of tomorrow’s huge clash with Liverpool at St James’ Park and next Sunday’s trip to Wembley.
Thankfully, the Newcastle United boss has delivered several positive injury updates, starting with the ‘good news’ on Joe Willock.
Howe has confirmed that he’s only suffered a ‘very minor’ hamstring injury, meaning he’s a doubt for Saturday but in with a real chance of being fit for next weekend’s final.
Elsewhere, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have also been passed fit for Liverpool after both were forced off at Bournemouth, while Callum Wilson is set to train today – meaning he too could feature tomorrow if he comes through the session unscathed.
Last but not least, Matt Targett is back in training after a heel injury has left him sidelined for several weeks. The next few games are likely to come too soon for the left-back, but it seems like a timely return to keep Dan Burn on his toes.
Howe on Joe Willock:
“We haven’t seen him (in training) yet and think he’ll be doubtful for tomorrow’s game.
“I don’t think it’s a big injury at all, a very minor complaint with his hamstring, so we hope to get him back very quickly.”
“After a scan we got good news and it’s not serious. Definitely there’s a chance for Wembley.”
Howe on Callum Wilson:
“Callum’s done really well. It was a very minor complaint for him. He hasn’t trained yet and we hope he trains today and that he’s in contention.”
Howe on Saint-Maximin and Almiron:
“They’ve been back training (this week) and they’re fine. We knew that those ones weren’t serious”
Howe on Matt Targett:
“No fresh injuries. Targett has made a welcomed return to training. First steps for him. Good signs that he is nearing coming back.“
this is great news
