Newcastle confident of beating AC Milan to another deal after Sven Botman saga – Report

Newcastle remain hopeful of beating AC Milan to the signing of Watford’s Joao Pedro despite having bids rejected last summer, according to The Chronicle.

The Brazilian has enjoyed a successful season in the Championship on a personal level, recording 10 goals and four assists in 32 games, despite the Hornets putting in some underwhelming performances.

Watford currently sit in 12th place six points off the play-off spots with four games remaining, so it is likely that the forward will leave this summer now their promotion hopes have all but gone.

The Chronicle report that AC Milan would not be able to compete with us financially for the 21-year-old; a factor that played into our hands when beating them to a deal for Sven Botman 12 months ago.

They also add that we are ‘unlikely to be put off’ by Watford’s asking price and could oversee a squad overhaul this summer, with additional funds likely to be available due to our lack of spending in January and sponsorship deals in the offing.

Pedro would be ideal for Eddie Howe due to his potential, Premier League experience and versatility – his ability to play across the entire front three could prove key should the Magpies secure European football next season.

With his set to be available and aware of our prior interest, this feels like a big one to watch this summer.
