Toon officials spotted watching wonderkid with €5m release clause – Report

According to reports in Turkey, Newcastle United are showing serious interest in bringing Fenerbahce sensation Arda Guler to St James’ Park.

As revealed by Turkish Football, Toon scouts have been spotted watching the attacking midfielder on a ‘number of occasions’ in recent months and have been left hugely impressed by the 18-year-old’s potential.

He could also be available at a bargain fee this summer, with a €5m release clause existing in his contract if he doesn’t play more than 1500 minutes of first-team football. He is currently halfway to achieving that, having played 749 minutes so far, so there is a real chance that buyout clause will still be in place heading into the summer.

Guler can operate down either flank or as a No 10 and has bagged seven goals and nine assists in 40 appearances for the Turkish giants; impressive numbers for someone who’s only just turned 18.

With Dan Ashworth known for signing young gems from all across the globe during his time at Brighton, it makes you wonder if he is the latest wonderkid on our radar, with recruitment at youth level said to be one of our top priorities this summer.

Here’s a few clips of the youngster in action for Fenerbahce:
