New report names 16 players being discussed at Newcastle as exciting transfer plans go public

An exciting report was released yesterday afternoon, as The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle’s owners are committed to bringing in FOUR ‘elite’ first-team additions this summer.

The piece stated that a right-sided centre-back, attacking left-back, two midfielders and a wide forward are all on wanted, but also named 16 players currently being discussed as we prepare to identify priority targets.

Here’s a full list of those mentioned in the article, featuring a few new names, plenty exciting options and a mixture of Premier League and overseas stars:

DEFENDERS – Kieran Tierney (Arsenal)

MIDFIELDERS – Moises Caicedo (Brighton), Declan Rice (West Ham), Kalvin Phillips (Man City), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Scott McTominay (Man Utd), James Maddison (Leicester), Gabri Veiga (Celta Vigo)

WINGERS – Karou Mitoma (Brighton), Harvey Barnes (Leicester), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli)

STRIKERS – Ivan Toney (Brentford), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Marcus Thuram (Borussia Monchengladbach)

This is the first time I’ve seen Mitoma linked with a move to St James’ Park. The Japanese winger has been electric this season and would be an outstanding signing; although he’d not come cheap from Brighton, who are notoriously tough sellers.

No centre-backs were mentioned, but it’s thought a right-sided option to compete with Fabian Schar will be looked at.

Interestingly, Luke Edwards also mentions that we are ready to spend big and attack the summer market whether we finish in the top-four or not. That’s great to hear, but it’s fair to say several of the names above may only consider a move if Champions League football was on offer.

From the players mentioned above, who would you like to see Toon chiefs prioritise?
