Newcastle sent come-and-get-me plea from summer target – Deal ‘very close’ to completion

Over the weekend, Danish outlet Sport Fyn reported that 18-year-ol talent Yankuba Minteh was ‘very close’ to sealing a summer move to Newcastle United.

They reported that a €5m deal was in the pipeline, providing we sorted out a couple of Brexit-related issues that could deny the Gambian a dream switch to England.

A few days on, the winger has not only scored in Odense’s 2-2 draw with Lyngby BK on Monday, he’s responded to rumours linking him with Newcastle.

He said the matter is with his agent, but sounded eager to sign at St James’ Park, saying he’s “ready to take the next step” in his career and eager to join Eddie Howe’s Mags.

Speaking to Viaplay after the game, here’s what the Danish Superliga star had to say when asked about claims he’s on his way to Tyneside:

“You should probably take that with my agent. I don’t know anything about it.

“I am ready to take the next step, and it will only be good for me.

“Of course, I want to go to Newcastle. It’s a big club in the Premier League and they’re doing something good. They are fighting for a place in the Champions League.”
