Toon trio set new Premier League record at Newcastle United – A sign of things to come?

As our very own Jake Jackman revealed earlier this month, Alexander Isak needed just two more goals to set a new record at Newcastle United.

Until now, we have never seen three Mags hit double figures in a single Premier League season. However, after the Swede’s brilliant brace on Sunday, we have done exactly that!

Miguel Almiron has notched 11 league goals – a tally matched by Callum Wilson after his second half strike against Spurs – but Isak was on eight heading into Sunday’s game.

Thanks to his ice-cool double, it’s the first time in a top flight season since the 1976-77 campaign we’ve had three players net 10 or more goals.

It’s hugely ambitious at this stage of the year, but three could become four if Joelinton scores five more in our final seven league games.

Either way, it’s another brilliant statistic and hat tip to Eddie Howe, who has not only brought the best out of Almiron, but managed Wilson and Isak superbly since the latter returned from a problematic thigh injury.

Wilson is no longer our main man up top, but he deserves huge credit. His form and fitness has been called into question since he returned from the World Cup looking well below his best, yet he’s quietly scored four goals in our last five games; despite starting just one of those.

With Isak only getting better and more attacking talent set to arrive this summer, you get the feeling big wins and double-digit hauls will become a regular occurrence in the exciting years to come!
