Official Newcastle announcement – Future star celebrates birthday in style with new contract

Newcastle United have announced that our young star Lewis Miley has signed his first professional contract with the Magpies on his 17th birthday.

The midfielder has enjoyed a successful season on a personal level, scoring twice and assisting five in his last eight Premier League 2 matches and making 10 appearances for the England Under-17s.

Miley also made his first appearance in the first-team back in December, featuring in our Diriyah Season Cup victory against Al-Hilal. A few months later, he was then named on the bench for our Premier League trip to Bournemouth in February.

The Geordie teenager has shown huge promise and regularly trains with the first-team. With the improvements made to the academy and its staff, this could just be the start of a great career with the Toon.

The 17-year-old now joins his brother Jamie in signing a professional contract with his boyhood club. Hopefully in the next few years we start to see them breaking into the first team.

Here’s what he told NUFC.co.uk after putting pen to paper:

“It’s a really good feeling to sign my first profressional contract, especially with my boyhood club. It’s something that I’ve dreamt of since I was a kid.”

“I’ve been at the Academy for a long time so to get to this point now is great and hopefully I can keep pushing on further in the future.

“Seeing the likes of Sean (Longstaff) and Elliot (Anderson) playing for Newcastle’s first-team really inspires me and it’s great to see how they’ve both come with the club, which really drives me on to try and follow in similar footsteps.”
