Premier League award imminent as Newcastle United star sets two records at St James’ Park

A month ago, after our mid-season break in Dubai, a frustrated Callum Wilson declared: “It’s like a new season for me so it’s going to be goals galore heading into the next few weeks!”

He vowed to get back amongst the goals after a tough start to 2023 and he’s done exactly that. With EIGHT goals in his last seven games, I’d be shocked if he isn’t named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for April.

What’s incredible is the fact he’s only started TWO of those seven games. He bagged braces in starts against West Ham (5-1) and Everton (4-1), but has been a super-sub in wins over Man Utd, Brentford, Spurs and Southampton, weighing in with a further four goals and an assist in just 126 minutes over that period.

His eight goals in April beat the seven Alan Shearer struck in September 1999, meaning no Newcastle United player has ever scored more in a calendar month during the Premier League era.

Not only that, he’s become the first Mag in over a decade to reach the 15-goal mark. The last player to do this was Demba Ba, who netted 16 times in 34 games over the 2021/22 season.

What’s more, Wilson has hit 15 goals in just 26 appearances, averaging a goal every 104 minutes; a rate that only Man City’s Erling Haaland has bettered. Who knows, if Howe finds a way to start Wilson and Isak at the same time, our top scorer could end the season on 20 if he finds the net in each of our remaining games. Over to you, Callum!
