99th minute drama creates fresh twist in top-four race – Good news for Newcastle United?

Brighton secured a massive win over Man United last night, with a 99th minute penalty putting a third place finish back in Newcastle’s hands.

While some may fear that Roberto De Zerbi’s side can still catch us in the top-four race, their remaining fixtures and hectic schedule should give Toon fans plenty of confidence – especially when they remain 10 points short of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

In their last six games, Brighton will have to travel to Arsenal, play host to Man City, make the journey to St James’ Park on May 18th and travel to an in-form Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

This result also means that third place is now in our hands, as we hold a two-point lead over Erik ten Hag’s side, who failed to make use of their game in hand as Luke Shaw’s last-gasp handball cost them a point.

Liverpool have won five on the spin and sit just four points behind Man Utd. The Reds remain unlikely to sneak a Champions League finish, but it would come at ten Hag’s expense, not Howe’s, if we can hold on to third over the final few weeks of the season.

Here’s the Premier League table following Brighton’s last-gasp win over Man Utd last night:
