Dan Ashworth pictured at Leicester on bad night for Newcastle – 3 players watched by Toon chief?

Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth was in the stands at the King Power Stadium to watch Leicester City’s dismal defeat to Liverpool Monday night.

We were hoping to see the Foxes do us a favour in the top four race, but instead they fell to a 3-0 defeat, with two from Curtis Jones and an Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick sending them just one point behind Eddie Howe’s Mags.

We do play Leicester on Monday, but it’s not Ashworth’s job to assess the opposition, so it’s likely he was in the stands to check on potential transfer targets.

Our interest in James Maddison has been well documented, so it’s highly likely he was being watched. Elsewhere, we’ve also been linked with winger Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans; who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

All three failed to impress in a pathetic display from the relegation battling Blues, sending them one step closer to the Championship and boosting Liverpool’s goal difference in the process. Here’s a photo of Ashworth in the stands:
