England squad announced – Two Mags in, injured pair miss out & Southgate snubs unsung hero

Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for upcoming EURO 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

After 11 goals and two assists since April, Callum Wilson has been recalled and features in the 25-player list alongside Kieran Trippier, but there’s no Nick Pope; who misses out after underdoing hand surgery set to keep him out of Sunday’s trip to Chelsea.

Sean Longstaff hasn’t made it – Southgate has selected the likes of Conor Gallagher and Kalvin Phillips instead – nor does Dan Burn, while a hamstring injury for Joe Willock has also scuppered his chances (for now) just as many were tipping him for a call-up.

The Premier League season draws to a close this Sunday, but international football returns next month, with the Three Lions set to travel to Malta on 16th June before taking on North Macedonia at Old Trafford on 19th June.

It’s a well-deserved reward for Wilson, who has bounced back from his post-World Cup struggles in style, taking his tally for the season up to an impressive 18 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

Here’s the latest England squad in full, featuring a first call-up for Palace’s Ebere Eze and recalls for Tyrone Mings an Lewis Dunk:
