According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Everton’s Amadou Onana and remain keen on Nice’s Khephren Thuram.
It’s clear the club are in the market for at least one new midfielder this summer and both have been linked on more than one occasion in recent months.
Douglas claims Everton could sell the 21-year-old if a ‘sizeable offer’ arrived, adding that Newcastle and Chelsea have both been tracking the 6ft 4′ giant.
Onana played alongside Sven Botman at Lille and may be tempted to join him on Tyneside if we upped our interest, with Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri telling NUFC Blog that he ‘loves the project’ on offer at St James’ Park following tentative interest in January.
Thuram has been in talks with Liverpool but is thought to be high up on Steve Nickson’s wanted list, making him another one to watch in our midfield search.
Both are tall, mobile and physical, offering an insight into the sort of player we appear to be targeting. Scott McTominay – another reported target – also fits this mould, suggesting we’re looking to add size to our engine room.
oh dear
