Tonali latest – Fabrizio Romano reveals ‘huge’ contract offer & final hurdle for Newcastle

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle are ‘on the verge’ of reaching a full agreement over personal terms for Sandro Tonali.

He claims that our contract offer proposes a six-year deal – running until June 2029 – and a salary that would see the midfielder earn €8m-per-season, plus €2m in potential add-ons.

The Italian journalist reports that the final hurdle facing Newcastle is the structure of the deal with AC Milan. A €70m agreement is thought to be close – as The Athletic revealed last night – but the Serie A giants are keen to insert add-ons that could see us pay beyond that figure in the future.

Here’s the latest updates from Romano, suggesting the finer details are now being discussed:

It’s believed that Tonali was identified as a key target for Eddie Howe, with the Toon boss valuing his huge potential, ability to play as a No 6 or No 8 and experience at Champions League level.

With Dan Ashworth believed to be negotiating a deal in Milan as we speak, let’s hope the finishing touches can be applied before the 23-year-old captains Italy in their opening game of the U21 European Champions against France tonight.
