Howe considering high-profile sale to fund move for £50m man – The Athletic

According to The Athletic, Eddie Howe may decide to cash in on Allan Saint-Maximin to fund a summer move for Leicester City star James Maddison.

With the £60m deal for Sandro Tonali all but done, Newcastle are believed to want another ‘elite’ midfielder, along with a left-back, right-sided centre-back and young striker.

However, with the club the club battling FFP restrictions and currently unwilling to pay Leicester’s demands, a move for Maddison appears to hang in the balance.

Saint-Maximin is viewed as one of the most sellable assets at the club and could be moved on if a sizeable offer arrives. Howe has always spoken highly of him and recent reports suggested he’d stay and fight for his place with Champions League football on offer, but it seems his future remains anything but clear.

The Athletic also report that Maddison plays in a position we are not currently prioritising. Despite huge interest from Howe – who is clearly a big admirer – it seems a big-money move for the England international is more likely to be sanctioned if funds are raised through ASM.

With just one year left on his contract, the Foxes will have to bring that price down sooner or later. Ourselves and Spurs hold all the aces from a negotiating perspective, so hopefully we can negotiate a cut-price fee without having to sell our star winger.

  1. Tiny tots toon aren’t going to pay up the necessary cash required to buy Maddison, so push off.

  2. I think this is a red herring. Howe plays one way. 433 with an intensity few if any other teams can compete with in the Premier league. And I also think many European teams will struggle with.
Madison, whilst a very good player, simply does not meet our requirements. He’s not the guy that tackles back and runs himself into the ground. We don’t need another St Maximan. Maddison is a quarter back type player. He does not fit the narrative.
Sobosly or however its spelt, would be a far better option and walks right into the first 11.
Just my humble opinion, I’m not a maxi hater, I like the guy. But he is a bit of a show pony.
Inconsistent both in terms of his end product on the pitch, and his injury status.

  3. I’d take Maddison in a heartbeat, playing alongside tonali and Bruno they’d be epic, need strength in depth if we are gonna play in the champions league as the squad just isn’t big enough, and his goals and assists speak for themselves in a shockingly bad Leicester team last term
