An old interview has emerged from top summer target James Maddison, offering plenty of encouragement to Newcastle United following rival interest from Tottenham; despite claims he prefers a move to the capital.
Speaking before their Europa Conference League quarter final clash with PSV last April, the 26-year-old spoke about the important of European football; something Spurs will NOT be able to offer the attacker after they ended the 2022/23 season in 8th.
In that interview (watch it below), Maddison admits big nights in Europe are “the best games to play in” and the sort of occasions he dreamt of being involved in as a kid playing in the playground.
With our top-four finish seeing us qualify for the Champions League – a tournament he is yet to play in following appearances in the Europa League and Europa Conference League with Leicester – I’d be surprised if Eddie Howe’s Newcastle did not appeal more than a North London side who’ve just missed out on Europe entirely. It’s been reported today that the player prefers a move to London and could favour Spurs. Let’s hope that’s not the case and the lure of Champions League football is too much to turn down.
