Newcastle identify £50m man as ‘priority target’ ahead of Leicester’s Harvey Barnes – Report

According to new reports, Eddie Howe has rekindled his interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby.

This comes from FootballTransfers, who claim the Frenchman has been identified as a ‘priority target’ in our ongoing search for a new winger.

The same piece states that Leicester’s Harvey Barnes is very much on our radar, but it’s their understanding that the 25-year-old is ‘further down the list’ than Diaby.

Diaby was heavily linked last summer, only for the club to be ‘put off’ by Leverkusen’s huge asking price. 12 months on, FootballTransfers reveal that we’ve received encouragement that their demands will have dropped, with the player entering the final two years of his contract and a replacement set to sign in German international winger Jonas Hofmann.

This comes after Sport BILD reported on our ongoing ‘interest’ in the former PSG talent earlier this week, stating that Diaby is ‘aiming for a move to England‘ and likely to be available for around £50m.

Time will tell where we go next in our search for a new goalscoring winger. Links with Barnes have intensified this week, with The Guardian stating that we were ‘leading the race’ just a few days ago, yet Diaby’s name just isn’t going away.
