Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Axel Disasi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He reports that we are ‘exploring’ a deal to sign the Monaco centre-back, having approached the player ‘this week’ over a potential move to St James’ Park.
Romano states that we are expected to make contact with the Ligue 1 side, but also face competition from Manchester United. He states that Erik ten Hag approves of a move for the 25-year-old, however, the Red Devils are yet to make a formal approach.
Disasi is Monaco’s captain and one of the top centre-backs in Ligue 1. He’s represented France four times and was called up to their World Cup squad last year, starting in their group stage clash with Tunisia.
With Eddie Howe on the lookout for a mobile, right-sided centre-back able to compete with Fabian Schar and partner Sven Botman in the future, a move for the €40m-rated Frenchman would make plenty of sense.
Would be a good move

Only a good move if we are successful, at the moment everybody is after everybody.
Will believe it when the contracts are signed,
