Newcastle set to launch £25m bid – Toon chiefs ‘confident’ of agreeing bargain deal – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle look set to launch a £25m bid for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.

The report that we are ‘confident’ of agreeing a cut-price fee with the Foxes, believing a low fee will be accepted now they’re resigned to losing the 25-year-old ahead of their season in the Championship.

On Friday night, The Telegraph reported that Barnes was eager to sign and likely to cost around £35m, with Newcastle hopeful of an agreement now Leicester’s demands have gradually come down.

Now, The Mail suggest that our opening bid will come in at the £25m mark. It’s a low offer and potential bargain for a player who bagged 13 goals in a relegated Leicester side last season, seeing him outscore the likes of Son Heung-Min, Jack Grealish, Jarrod Bowen, Raheem Sterling and Bruno Fernandes.

The piece adds that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in ‘reliable’ player able to add to the quality and depth of his squad over the 2023/24 season, which will see us compete in the UEFA Champions League and battle on four fronts.

I’d be surprised if Leicester accept £25m – they just received £45m for a James Maddison in the final year of his contract – but it could be shrewd business if we can seal a deal at anything around the £30m mark.

  1. To be honest, he’s not worth much more than £25m as Newcastle fans will soon realise if the Saudi-owned club sign him. But Leicester won’t accept £25m and with other clubs in the hunt Newcastle will have to pay more.

We’re quoting ‘confident’ as that’s the exact word The Mail used in their piece reporting it. Just sharing exactly what they said.
