Harvey Barnes’ response to Newcastle as Fabrizio Romano issues update on Leicester City star

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Harvey Barnes has already said ‘yes’ to Newcastle as a potential destination, with talks between Toon and Leicester chiefs expected to ramp up.

Romano reports that we are planning to ‘advance’ on a deal for the 25-year-old this week, stating that talks between the two clubs are ‘already underway’ and set to continue over the coming days in search of an agreement.

With Barnes keen to sign, agreeing a fee will be the key hurdle to overcome. The Telegraph reported on Friday night that a deal in the region of £35m is ‘expected’ to be agreed, while The Mail suggest our opening bid will be worth around £25m.

Interestingly, Romano adds that a deal may also depend on outgoings, suggesting we are looking to create space in the squad and free up some funds on our wage bill to make room for Barnes’ arrival.

The likes of Fraser, Hayden, Lewis, Darlow, Manquillo and Hendrick will currently be taking home a hefty amount each month, yet don’t appear to be in Eddie Howe’s plans on Tyneside.
