Newcastle set to sign AC Milan & Inter Milan duo as Toon close in on two youth talents

Some big claims have emerged from Ireland this morning, revealing two highly-rated youth talents who look set to arrive at St James’ Park.

As revealed by the Irish Examiner, AC Milan youngster Cathal Heffernan had a successful trial on Tyneside last week and looks set to join our U21 ranks ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 18-year-old centre-back had received interest from Serie A side Verona, but he’s expected to join our ever-growing academy ‘barring a hitch in the next 48 hours.’ Heffernan joined AC Milan in February last year, who exercised their option to buy after a loan spell from Cork City.

Elsewhere, the same report reveals that we’re in advanced talks to sign another Milan-based talent in Inter Milan’s Kevin Zefi.

Like Heffernan, the winger is an Ireland youth international and is thought to be a real talent, bagging 16 goals in 23 appearances over the 2022/23 youth season.

This follows recent moves for a host of U16 talents, with Sam Alabi, Kacey Wooster, Michael Mills and Leo Shahar all recruited by sporting director Dan Ashworth.
